I thinking about buying a new notebook and since HP, Dell and other vendors released new notebooks based on Intel Sandy Bridge this would be the perfect time to replace my current MacBook Pro with a new Windows Laptop.
So basically I made this HP Elitebook comparison for all Important things for me based on the Swiss data. (In Switzerland not every model is available.) I also took always the best available option for me.

Maybe there are some mistakes in this chart but the most things should be right. And I don’t say one is better than the other one, clearly they are made for different tasks and workloads.
Other things:
- I will add a Intel SSD
- I will use 8GB RAM
- I will not use an optical drive
What’s important for me:
- I need long battery life up 6-8h (more would be better)
- I need fast disk speed. Since I used a SSD I will never use a HDD again.
- I don’t need a lot of graphic power
- Resolution should be 1600×900 or higher
- the notebook should be light and not to think
- CPU power, should be enough to run Hyper-V for demos (boot from VHD)

Hi Thomas,
Would be interesting to know why you are thinking about making the change from a MacBook Pro to a Windows Laptop?
cheers
Sandro
Hi Sandro
Since I work most Time with Microsoft products like Windows, Windows Servers and Powershell its the better choise for me. I really like (loved) Apple Hardware but I like the new flexibility I have with the HP Notebook series.
Tom
I’ve just purchased the 8560p (had it for 4 days now) and I can tell you it is a very nice system but it does have a few quirks:
1. Trackpad: I believe this is fully a software issue but on random boots it will seriously play up. I blame the Synaptics software as the Ubuntu on the backend does not do the same thing
2. HP Protect Tools: If you plan on using the Protect Tools and VMWare at any time remember to set the VMWare Authentication Service to Delay Start. It is an issue with the Protect Tools at the moment
3. The thing is friggin fast! Not really a quirk, I just thought I would throw that in. :)
Mine is configured with a 500GB drive and 8GB of RAM. Battery life I’m getting about 4 hours, a bit less when I turn everything up full, use no power management, and get silly with virtual machines. If the 8560w were available here (I’m in NZ) at the same time as I was purchasing this online, I would have seriously looked at the 8560w as it has 4x SODIMM slots as opposed to 2x slots.
Hi Cliff
Thanks for you comment. Hmm I hope they will fix the Trackpad problem with a software update. I ordered the 8460w today. Since it will not be availible in Switzerland, I ordered it with myus.com.
I ordered the 8460w with a Quad i7, 8GB of RAM, 500GB Hardidks (which I will replace later with a SSD, for more performance and better batterylife) and a 9 cell battery. I think this is the best option between performance and batterylife.
But I am think about replace my Workstation at home with a 8560w, maybe later this year or with the next model.
Note that the quad-core processor in the 8460w is missing some features present in the dual-core 8460p.

the 8460w comes with a 9-cell battery, though I believe that one can get a 9-cell to fit in an 8460p. Anyone tried this?
Lewis
Hi
Yes thats right the quad cpu is missing some things, but I don’t think I will need them, okay maybe the missing Intel TXT could be an issue.
The 9cell battery stands out a bit at the back :)
Hello
I can buy a laptop from work at lower price and we have the choice between the HP Elitebook 840 Touch, a powerful; mobile high-end ultrabook laptop en de HP Probook 650 G1 a powerful high-end laptop at the same price.
Which one would be your choice random use (office, internet, mail and study)? This is the link with a the specs for these two laptops: http://www.uhasselt.be/UH/laptop/Configuratie-HP-laptops.html
Thanks for your advice!
Well hard to say, by just looking at the specs I would go for the ProBook since the screen has a better resolution and a SSD. But you don’t have touch right?
